Our Charities
The main aim of this novel dining event organised by the Rotary Club of Marlow Thames is to raise money for charity.
Each year the Club chooses two named “lead” charities to headline Marlow Tastes©. But a significant number of other good causes will also benefit from the proceeds.
Our first lead charity is the excellent Marlow United Charities which has quietly been making a real difference to struggling local families for many years.
“Marlow United Charities is a Victorian charity, formed over many years, from the merging of 13 old local charities and more recently from merging four from the 21st century. A short history of the charity can be found here.
Then in 1895, it was formed under one banner as ‘United Charities and others’, with a Working Name of ‘Marlow United Charities.” Its main charitable objective is “the prevention or relief of poverty’ and for many years this has taken the form of the distribution of food vouchers at the end of the Summer and Christmas term, to needy homes and families in the town“
Parkinson’s UK , our second lead charity needs no introduction. They do a fantastic job at both national and local levels providing much needed help and assistance to those unfortunate enough to be affected by this horrible disease.
“We are Parkinson’s UK. Powered by people. Funded by you.
We’re here for everyone affected by Parkinson’s. By funding the right research into the most promising treatments, we get closer to a cure every day. We’re the largest European charitable funder of Parkinson’s research.
Together, we’ll find a cure.“
We will also retain a portion of the proceeds to direct to some of our other charitable initiatives and causes.
Marlow Thames Rotary Club raises money in many ways (the Marlow Santas Fun Run being the most well-known). We estimate that over the last 25 years over three-quarters of a million pounds has been raised by the efforts of the Club.
Many of the beneficiaries of our fund raising are local and well known, and include One Can Trust, Marlow United Charities, Horizon Sports Club, Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, Rivertime Accessible Boating, Wycombe Homeless Connection, various refugee support groups (including Ukraine), Thames Valley Air Ambulance, JAM Theatre, Bucks Young Carers, South Bucks Hospice, South Bucks Headway, Thames Valley Hospice, Alexander Devine Hospice, Thames Valley Adventure Playground, Bucks MIND, Aquabox, Shelter Box, and many, many more.
